Equine services

The Avenue Veterinary Centre offers a high quality equine service, headed by partner Neill Ingram and assisted by the other vets in the practice. Denis Oliver, a retired partner, also helps with some of the equine calls.

Most of our equine work is carried out on visits but some cases are brought to our equine unit located at Station Farm in Sedgebrook. Here we have facilities for safe anaesthesia and surgery as well as radiography and hospitalisation.

We regularly carry out radiography, ultrasound and endoscopy on horses, as well as lameness investigations and fertility work.

Farm animals

Veterinary Surgery - Grantham, Lincolnshire - Avenue Veterinary Centre - Cows being herded

The Avenue Veterinary Centre is one of the few remaining practices offering a traditional service to local farmers. Farm animal work still forms a substantial part of the working day for some of our vets. Our clients range from smallholdings to large commercial enterprises.

We run a 24 hour emergency service for our clients, having mobile vets on duty to visit farm animals around the clock. The emergency work is especially busy around the lambing and calving seasons. Our veterinary surgeons can advise on treatment for a wide range of problems affecting farm livestock, including cattle fertility work, mastitis and foot problems.

Most surgical procedures on cattle are carried out on the farm, however we also perform surgery on sheep and calves at the surgery in Grantham where we have a dedicated large animal section. We also perform the odd goat caesarean!

Some of our vets carry out work on behalf of DEFRA, mainly testing cattle for tuberculosis and brucellosis, as well as checking for cases of foot and mouth disease and anthrax.

Directions to Station Farm

Station Farm is easily accessed from the A52 heading for Allington. The unit is immediately on the right after the railway bridge. High vehicles are advised to travel to Sedgebrook from the Allington direction to avoid the railway bridge.

We offer a full equine vaccination and passport service including micro chipping. Our vets officiate at several local equine events and officiate at Leicester.

We also carry out some minor surgical procedures including orthopaedics at the Equine Unit. However some operations, such as castrations, are usually carried out at the owners' premises. We also offer official JMB horse measurements at our Equine Unit.
